KATHY McCARTY EXHIBITION
Acrylic Paintings

Kathleen McCarty was born and raised in Wisconsin. She studied art at the Art Institute of Chicago and in Florence, Italy.  After receiving her BFA she settled in Washington state where she currently lives and works in the former home and studio of the late Northwest artist Richard Gilkey. Surrounded by a river slough and Skagit Valley farmland, her creativity is fed by this connection to the landscape as well as by modern design, good food and salsa dancing. Kathleen has shown her work throughout northwest Washington.

"I strive to make joyous, uplifting paintings that vibrate with energy. My current work is a series of acrylic paintings on 5'x4' canvases. Their large scale is integral to attaining the sense of movement, color and overall effect that I aim for. Always in the forefront of my mind is the question: How simple can I make this and still convey its essence?"

TRUNK SHOWS
As part of our yearly anniversary celebrations, we hold trunk shows featuring optical designers from around the world. Past shows have included the designers from Kamuro, Schau Schau, Kamuro and LA Eyeworks. (see photos of our first Bellevue trunk show here.)

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT PROJECTS

Ottica Seattle believes it is important to give back to our local community and to communities around the world. We have recently assisted these groups:

REMOTE AIR MEDICAL (RAM) Volunteer Corps is a non-profit airborne relief corps dedicated to serving humankind by bringing free health, dental and eye care to people in remote areas of the US and the world. Ottica Seattle sent hundreds of our eyeglasses to help the medically underserved in Appalachia.

ONE BY ONE is a program which provides support to those who treat and prevent women with fistula in the developing world. Using the proceeds from one of our trunk shows, Ottica Seattle made a monetary donation, to contribute to a women’s sustainable development program.

SEATTLE CANCER CARE ALLIANCE’s Breast Cancer Program is devoted to researching the cure for breast cancer. Joining with the folks from LA Eyeworks, Ottica Seattle donated the proceeds from from one of our trunk shows to help play a role in finding the cure for breast cancer.
